I arrived in PH last week for the YGG event unsure of what to expect. What would the atmosphere be like? Would the long bear market have thinned the crowds? Would the recent thawing of the ice be reflected on the ground? To be honest, I also wondered if I would still be “famous” in this part of the world.
Everything I experienced, all of the data that I’m equipped with now, points towards one clear takeaway: PH is so f*ckin back and will drive web3 gaming to levels of adoption that make 2021 look like grandma’s birthday party.
@Pixels_Online is the talk of web3 gaming and this was reflected on the ground in PH. Pixels is hovering around 130 K DAU right now. 25% of Pixels players are Fillipinos. I made sure to start my talk with this. It was surreal to meet the faces behind the players and see the impact, the joy, Luke and the team have brought to the community. Our community. The symbolic importance of Pixels cannot be underestimated.

Pixels proves that PH players will be the main driver of adoption for all web3 games, not just Axie. Ronin is becoming more than just axie, just like Nintendo was able to become more than Mario.
Classic is back and it’s energizing our base.
60 K Daily active uers (DAU) on Day 1. 100 K Weekly actives and the week is far from over. A big trap that we can fall in on crypto twitter is to focus on Twitter/Discord and ignore other channels. Case in point: the Classic is back post got 100x more engagement on Facebook than Twitter. 7 M views which is actually more than twice the number of views Pudgy’s Walmart post got on Twitter. Only mention them because they are on fire and one of the teams I try to learn from.
This was the most viewed single post for an NFT announcement of 2022 and 2023 (willing to be corrected if anyone can find something higher).
Axie Tiktokers and streamers like @boarknock are also racking up huge numbers already. We’ll continue to experiment with adding more levers to classic as engagement ramps up. Stay tuned and watch Pos2’s account for leeks— I can’t stop him at this point.
Physical Activations are back. You may have noticed that since AxieCon, we have scaled back on the meetups and conferences. It’s important to stay lean in Bear markets and this type of spending is some of the easiest budget to cut. However, as the market starts to percolate we want to experiment with more physical onboarding portals and community bonding zones IRL. The Axie meetup at CoinsPH was a resounding success with over 500 attendees dropping by over the course of the night, with 300 concurrent attendees, filling the room to the brim at 9 PM.
We also experimented with an IRL Axie Origins Gym leader battle + a live playing of the Left right game. Shoutout to Enrico (Enrico24.ron) for winning 30 battles in 2 hours and taking home a Mystic!
The Origins Summit was a LAN party with 64 of the Top Origins players. While the spotlight might be on classic, Origins has done a ton to balance our economy and retain our player-base during the bear. Don’t sleep on Origins!
I’m sure you’ve seen my wife’s posts about the booth. The booth was a hit. I also spent significant time there because I wanted to see what could be improved and optimized so that we can roll these out at more events or even on street corners across the world. The crew turned in an aboslutely epic performance— driving 975 Ronin wallet downloads + tons of social content.
PH is the largest market for Axie Merch
We launched Axie Merch this week! Check it out here: merch.axieinfinity.com One narrative that emerged last cycle is that Fillipinos just wanted to farm and sell tokens. But this racist and simplistic narrative ignored the fact that there was a big lack of options for them spend their tokens on within the ecosystem (when you’re focused on finding a way to get users, thinking about monetization + features for econ. balancing is de-prioritized).
With Merch shipped + part evolutions on the way, we will now see more sources of organic consumption + spending. The large number of Fillipinos supporting their favorite community-owned IP, demonstrates that there is real love and emotion at the foundation of this IP and community.
Indeed, PH is the largest buyer of Axie merch. They are also the largest users of Mavis Pay, our Ronin-based crypto payment product and more than 60% of all sales have been made with crypto so far. Crypto used for payments. This is the way it was supposed to work.
We can use the momentum generated from this data and launch to snowball into larger Ecommerce partnerships down the line. The Grab alliance turned heads.
So grateful to have seen you all this week. Thank you YGG for gathering us together.
Mahal Ko Kayo.
And just like classic,
I’ll be back.
